It’s Gotta be the Shoes!

I’m not much on the sports, but I do know endorsements are a big part of being a professional athlete and with basketball players, it’s about the shoes. Big timers have been pushin’ high priced sneaks for years to kids and young adults who gotta have the newest and the most expensive.

Stephon Marbury is tired of this, though. He plays for the Knicks and has decided that $150 bucks for some shoes is ridiculous and makes it hard on inner city families trying to get by. He came up with shoes that folks could buy AND still be able to purchase groceries. And they’re not junk either, as he wears them when he plays. The cost?

How bout $15 bucks?

They’re being sold in a discount chain store called Steve & Barry’s but you can check ’em out online here. Pretty damn cool.

  1. If you’re going to exploit cheap third world labor, at least you can pass those savings on to your customers.

NOTE: I have no evidence these are made by third-world labor other than the price, and I actually think what this guy is doing is pretty good. Fuck Nike.

  2. I’d wear those running shoes, they’re pretty sweet. I like how the jerseys and jackets are only $10, too. I wonder how long this line is carried at Target as well…

  3. it’s a rare thing for someone to genuinely market something specifically for the people in mind, and not the money in their wallets. I like the reaction from the crowd after one kid asks how much a pair costs.
