Charlie may not surf, but he does double dip.

In 2001 Francis Ford Coppola released Apocalypse Now: Redux on DVD, which contained extra footage of the film, but no special features. Now he’s releasing Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier (Special Collector’s Edition),which of course has tons of extras including commentaries and documentaries, but strangely his wife’s Hearts Of Darkness is absent.

Yeah it’s double dipping just for extras and sure I prefer the ’79 cut of the film, but as a fan I’m more than willing to make Coppola richer then invest in a cure for cancer.

  1. This has become such a common thing since DVD happened, and it really tends to annoy me. Release the thing the way you want it the first time, for god’s sake.

The “Director’s Cut” bullshit that became popular when video happened was bad enough. Now you get the Director’s Cut, and then the Director’s Cut Special Edition, and then the Director’s Cut Collector’s Edition…where does it end? Still, George Lucas is a worse offender here than Copolla. His bullshit excuses for re-re-releasing the Star Wars DVDs are just disgusting.
