GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALL!
So, the big buzz in sports circles of Seattle (at least most of the circles I frequent)(weird euphemism…) is news about a soccer team coming to Seattle with the 2009 MLS expansion.
The weird thing is that unbeknownst to me Drew Carey is a big soccer nut, and will have minority ownership in the team. For some reason it seems odd that a comedian who lives in another state would be interested in owning a sports team. Not surprising to me is that Seattle sports mogul and ex-MSoftie Paul Allen will also be a part owner.
The new team will be sharing Qwest Field with the Seahawks, just as the Sounders have been doing since the facility opened. That said, this certainly leaves the Sounders team up in the air. I don’t think Seattle has enough fans to maintain a minor and a major league team of what is inarguably a 2nd-tier sport in the states.
I say good riddance Supersonics, welcome as-yet-to-be-named Futbol Team!
